FANNIN COUNTY SPORTS HALL OF FAME

HISTORY

The first meeting to establish the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame was held in early 2012 with Denson Hamby, T J Thompson, and Tom Hamby in attendance. From that meeting grew the development of a twenty person Board of Directors which presently directs and maintains the organization.

By meeting on a monthly basis, the Board of Directors developed a purpose statement, organizational bylaws, criteria for induction, a logo, a Hall of Fame location, individual inductee and team nomination forms, and carried out many other steps in finalizing the organization.

By August of 2012, the organization had progressed to the point that an initial group of twelve individuals and one team were selected as the inaugural Hall of Fame class of inductees for 2013.  Organized efforts were also begun for the publicizing of the Hall of the Fame and its inaugural class, raising funds for plaques, projects, and for the planning activities and formal induction of the first Hall of Fame class of 2013. During the months of August through November the News-Observer newspaper of Blue Ridge published bios and photos of the inductees and teams.

On Friday, December 7, 2013, the inaugural class of the Hall of Fame was introduced to the public at a Fannin County High School Basketball Game in Blue Ridge, Georgia. On Saturday, April 13, 2013 the initial class of the Fannin County Sports Hall of Fame was officially inducted into the Hall of Fame. It is the aim of this organization to select inductees each year with nominations from the public welcomed.
